A.D.O.P.T. OPENS LOW-INCOME SPAY AND NEUTER CLINIC
NAPERVILLE, Ill., May 14, 2010—Animals Deserving of Proper Treatment (A.D.O.P.T.) has expanded its low-cost spay and neuter clinic to pet owners on public aid. Recipients must be on Public Assistance, State Aide, Link Card, Disability, Social Security or Unemployment.
This program was introduced after ten successful months of being the only low-cost spay and neuter program available to animal welfare organizations in the western suburbs. Do you think it is not important to spay or neuter your pet? According to veterinarian, Dr. Lind Kopja, “the benefits of spaying and neutering pet dogs and cats are numerous and include preventing health problems, decreasing the changes of a pet running away, and helping to decrease the number of unwanted pregnancies and, therefore, the number of animals in shelters.”
A.D.O.P.T. is currently taking appointments for the procedure and the next appointment date is June 14th. The spay and neuter service includes a pre-surgical exam, and if requested, basic vaccines and a blood test. To book an appointment, pet owners should contact A.D.O.P.T. Medical Services Coordinator Chris Stirn at (630) 355-2299 x 230. For more information individuals should visit the shelter’s webpage at www.adoptpetshelter.org.
What does the shelter hope to achieve? According to Dr. Linda Kopja, “Through the program we are hoping to provide the chance for happier, longer lives for these pets, and also decrease the number of unwanted dogs and cats entering municipal and private shelters in our area.”
