Blessed Bonds Fund

A fund to keep people & pets together through times of crisis

At A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter, we believe in the important bond between pets and their families. The purpose of the Blessed Bonds program is to support our community in times of need, prevent pets from entering the animal welfare system, and keep families and their pets together. Our program provides short-term foster homes for pets whose owners are in a crisis situation. Many of the pet owners we provide assistance to are facing illness, hospitalization, rehab, domestic violence, foreclosure, eviction, and many other difficult circumstances. By providing temporary foster care for pets, families are able to take the necessary steps to get back on their feet and be reunited with their pet!

Blessed Bonds was founded in 2004 with the mission of preserving and promoting the companion bond between humans and animals. Since Blessed Bonds was established, we have helped more than 1,200 pets stay with their families.

Nemo

Nemo & Zim

When Kevin lost his job and couldn’t pay his rent, he had no other option than to move into an apartment with his sister. Only a couple days later, he was told that he could not keep his two cats, Zim and Nemo.

While searching online for a foster care program, Kevin learned about A.D.O.P.T.’s Blessed Bonds program. “I wanted to find a safe place for them to go while I could get things back in order,” says Kevin. Even though he was in a difficult position, Kevin knew he wanted to keep his cats. After learning more about Blessed Bonds, he knew that putting Zim and Nemo in short-term foster care was the perfect option for him.

Blessed Bonds foster space was limited at the time, but with the help of A.D.O.P.T., Zim and Nemo were able to stay together at the shelter. When it was discovered that Nemo suffered from a medical condition requiring costly ongoing care, it began to look as though Kevin and Nemo might never be reunited—but through the Blessed Bonds program and A.D.O.P.T.’s on-site veterinary clinic, Nemo was able to get the care he needed as he transitioned back into Kevin’s care.

Kevin was able to find a new job and soon after that, a pet-friendly home that he could bring his boys back to. He was eager to be reunited with them after being apart for so long. He recently told Blessed Bonds, “It is great having them both at home again. They are addicted to the laser pointer and never get tired of running around the house. I was relieved when I found out about the Blessed Bonds program and without their help, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the company of my cats today.”

How you can help pets in crisis

Your donation to the Blessed Bonds fund will help keep people and pets together, provide a cat with the vaccines its needs before going to foster care, or emergency boarding for large dogs or bully breeds who may be difficult to place in a foster home! No donation is too big or too small and your support is greatly appreciated. Thanks to you, we can continue to keep people and their pets together! Please remember that your donation is tax deductible under ADOPT’s 501(c)3 organization tax ID 36-3683984.

If you are interested in getting involved, we are always in need of foster homes! As a temporary foster parent, you get to pick what type of pet you would like to foster, as well as the frequency and amount of time you are able to give. Remember that the more foster homes we have, the more animals we can save! You can click here for more information about fostering
